Turtle Island or “Marathonisi Islet” as locals call, is a protected small islet in the bay of National Marine Park where Caretta Caretta nests its eggs. Last years it is known as the Turtle Island because of its shape as it looks like a turtle. There are two main beaches on it, one with pebbles, while the other has fine white sand. Locals most love it for the stories with pirates where our grandparents used to tell. The rocks are named after the Mizithres kind of cheese, as their shape is reminiscent of chunks of the foresaid cheese. Mizithres Rocks belong to a cluster of caves and arches which form the trademark coastline of Keri.
